Joan's Sourdough Bread

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I freeze my bread?

Yes, remove it from the bag, wrap the loaf or rolls in heavy duty aluminum foil and place it back in the bag and freeze. To thaw, place the bread on the counter for 6 to 7 hours. When completely thawed you can place it in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes and have oven fresh bread. Sorry, the morning bread loaves can not be reheated this way.

  • Why don't you slice the loaves?

The bread will stay much fresher for a longer period of time if it is not sliced.

  • I would like to send holiday cakes as gifts. When should I order?

Holiday cakes are available for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Please allow three weeks for holiday delivery.

  • Have you ever thought about a pineapple loaf (of course with the glaze!)?

We are always trying new recipes and have several ideas for new items. Stay informed about new goodies with our product updates here.

  • Where can I find Joan's Sourdough Bread?

Visit us on Saturdays, May through October at Watauga County Farmers' Market in Boone, North Carolina.

  • Is your bread the same as the San Francisco style sourdough?

No, our bread is Applachia style sourdough. It has a soft texture and a slightly sweet taste. There are several sourdough cultures and alot of them are connected to regions where they are more known. Sourdough is a process and is not exclusive to any region or type of baking or bread. Always check to make sure you are getting your favorite variety.
